Isaiah 42:23

מִ֥י בָכֶ֖ם יַאֲזִי֣ן זֺ֑את יַקְשִׁ֥ב וְיִשְׁמַ֖ע לְאָחֽוֹר׃

23 Who among you will listen to this? Or will listen very closely for the time to come?

מִי בָכֶם יַאֲזִין זֹאת Who among you will listen to this? יַאֲזִין hifil imperfect, "give ear." The answer to a rhetorical question like this is "no one."

יַקְשִׁב וְיִשְׁמַע לְאָחוֹר Or will listen very closely for the time to come? Hebrew is poor in adjectives and adverbs, and here the two imperfects יַקְשִׁב (from קבשׁ, "give attention") and וְיִשְׁמַע "listen" simply intensify the same idea, "listen very closely." אָחוֹר means the "back side" of a thing; in a time reference it means things or times to come. The first Mp note tells us that יַקְשִׁב occurs only this once written defectively (the hifil should have a yod: יקשׁיב). The second Mp note says that וְיִשְׁמַע occurs three times (Judges 9:7; Isa 42:23; Jer 23:18).
